Sheryll Dempsey Scholarship

The Sheryll Dempsey Scholarship

The Sheryll Dempsey scholarship is intended to provide assistance to students with covering the costs of their textbooks.

The Sheryll Dempsey scholarship has been established in honor of Sheryll Dempsey who was an avid reader.  Sheryll Dempsey was a nurse before entering the Navy, where she served for two years in a reception center for soldiers returning from Vietnam.  After leaving the Navy, she graduated from St Mary’s with a J.D. and established a private law practice in Texas.  She embraced the belief that a life without learning is an empty one, and that reading is fundamental to learning new things.  She was an avid reader and donated to the local library throughout her life.  Friends of Sheryll Dempsey said that she read six books a week. You can view the memories of Sheryll Dempsey in her Guestbook.

In her Memory, this Scholarship is offered to students to assist them in covering the cost of their textbooks.  Preference will be given first to those students pursuing a graduate degree, though all students are encouraged to apply.
