The “Doc Dempsey” Scholarship
The Doc Dempsey scholarship is intended to provide assistance to students pursuing degrees in “helping” professions.
Our initial scholarship is the “Doc Dempsey” Scholarship, in honor of James “Doc” Dempsey who prized higher education. Jim Dempsey worked hard to put his wife through law school, help his daughter with her education leading to a doctorate in psychology, and finally in the last years before his death go on to earn his own college degree. He ended up taking out many loans to assist along the way. We know what kind of hardships being a student in the US can create – and especially graduate students who are often expected to complete low or no reimbursement internships or residencies. Therefore, this Scholarship is offered to students pursuing degrees in the helping professions.
Preference will be given first to those students pursuing a graduate degree, though all students are encouraged to apply. Only online applications will be accepted.
Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the date of submission of the application.
- All applicants must be accepted to, or currently enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited program in the United States.
- All applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent through latest fall semester.
- All applicants must be pursuing degrees in a care-giving profession, including but not limited to: Medicine, Mental Health, and Teaching.
