Jim Dempsey Memorial

Jim DempseyJames Peter Dempsey

Born in Brooklyn, New York on Jan. 11, 1948
Departed on May 7, 2004 and resided in Laredo, TX.

Do Not Grieve for James P. Dempsey.

Rather–rejoice in his memory and the many lives that he has touched. Dempsey was a loving father, an adored lover, a decorated hero and much more. Not a soul alive who had the privilege of meeting him was indifferent to him. So, his family asks that you take those memories of him and learn the lessons he had to offer. Above all, live every day to the fullest and take nothing for granted.

James Dempsey’s lists of accomplishments are too long to list. He was a soldier, loyal to his country in every way, decorated with three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star for Bravery and so many more. He was founder of Halo Flight, ever intent on saving and enriching lives. He was an active Mason and enjoyed Civil War re-enactments- an active member of the 69th Division of the Irish Brigade as well as the 6th Texas Division. He was a father – not only to this writer but to every child that he met, teaching always to be true to yourself, and at the same time not to take yourself so seriously – for when it comes down to it, who else can you truly laugh at? He survives in all of our hearts and leaves behind his daughter, Rachyll Dempsey, Psy. D., his partner, Hillary McAllister, his siblings, many nieces and nephews and thousands of friends. We wish to extend an invitation to everyone who would like to celebrate his life and memory.”

It's August 2015 and we are updating the website (to try and protect it from spam bots). I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone for your tributes, memorials, and continued to support. To-date we have been able to offer five different scholarships to people pursuing higher education in the helping professions. 100% of those scholarships have come from your kindness! Thank you!

What an amazing man and father he seems to have been. There is no greater testament to a man's life than to have the admiration and respect of his children. Thank you for all the support your family has provided for others through his military service, the writings of Rachyll, the love extended to others through his family, and the gift of the scholarship program set up in his name. May God continue to bless your family and bring you His peace everyday in your lives.

I stumbled upon this site while I was researching scholarships. Jim's picture was posted on that page. You can literally see the love in his eyes. I had to learn more about him. I am sad that such a wonderful man had to die too early in life. We need more men like him. I did not have a dad in my life and I am envious of Rachyll. However, I have a wonderful husband and he is a great father to our children. For that, I am truly grateful and can understand a little of how Mr. Dempsey must have been. Thank you for sharing a little bit about him with us.

I stumbled across this site while searching for former friends and acquaintances, not really certain that this was the Jim Dempsey I was searching for. Once I read the comments from his friends and loved ones, I knew I found him, but much too late. I met Jim in 1974 when he was assigned recruting duty at Valley Stream, New York. As I recall, Jim was an E-6 at the time and I was a 1 Lt. assigned as the 1st ID Unit of Choice Recruiting Officer. We became friends and I would visit him at the recruiting station almost daily either enroute to, or from, Ft. Hamilton, N.Y. I knew absolutely nothing about recruiting, but Jim took me under his wing, made me a better officer and contributed significantly to my success. Jim had such a magnificent personality and was always a joy to be around, regardless of the circumstances. His optimism was infectuous, his sense of humor contageous. Above all, he was professional, dedicated, loyal and very brave. May God bless Jim, his family and friends.

o.k., what luck...i'd been unaware of this site, thank you for touching base with me. wow, it has been a while but my mentor comes up in many, many of my conversations. tall talls he shared but la raza was too closed minded to listen. at one time i was satisfied to be a paramedic, then jimbo came along...so i went on the fly with halo and i re-uped with my beloved navy as a corpsman and i to got tofeel what it was like to be 'doc'. all this inspired by jimbo, the studying, the service to others, others before self...he brought out the boy scout in me everyday. thank you senior for the constant inspiration. you are missed but your positive influence will live on in every lesson i teach. thank you so much for bringing to laredo what was in other places long before...you were an open book, you had an open mind and you openned your heart to all of us. we who were touched by you are better because of it. BENDICIONES amigo, BENDICIONES.
